Short answer: WaveForge is a Specterr alternative for artists who want a beat-synced visualizer of their finished track and cover art without learning an editor, and it's built around pay-per-video packs, so you don't need a subscription. Your first 2 videos are free with no card, and credit packs start at $0.99.
I make music too. I built WaveForge because I just wanted a video for the song I already sent to DistroKid. Here's how it stacks up, as honestly as I can put it.
| WaveForge | Specterr | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | Pay per video. Credit packs from $0.99, Pro optional. Credits never expire. | Pro: $29/mo, or $16.50/mo billed yearly ($198). Unlimited: $79/mo, or $49/mo billed yearly ($588). There's also a single-video option; its price isn't shown on the pricing page. |
| Free tier | 2 free videos, no card (1 credit = 2 videos) | Free plan, $0: 1 video a day, 5-minute videos, medium-quality audio, image backgrounds, videos expire in 10 days |
| Watermark | Free exports: 720p with watermark and outro. Pack or Pro: no watermark | Free: watermark. Pro, Unlimited and single video: no watermark |
| Max resolution | 4K (also 1080p and 2K) on pack or Pro | Free: 720p 30fps. Pro: 1080p 60fps (60 videos a year, 5 credits a month, up to 10-minute videos). Unlimited: 4K 60fps, up to 120-minute videos |
| Editor needed? | No. Drop the track, pick a style, export. Live preview to tweak. | Web-based editor |

Pick Specterr if you're a DJ or producer who wants a hands-on web editor you can tweak for a while, and you'll make videos every month, so a subscription makes sense. Its Unlimited plan also covers long DJ mixes, up to 120-minute videos at 4K.
Pick WaveForge if you've got a finished track and cover art, want the video tonight without learning anything, only release now and then, and would rather pay per video than keep a subscription. Same if you want it posted straight to YouTube (that's on Pro).
Both are honest tools. WaveForge never invents a fake performer.
Is WaveForge free? Your first 2 videos are free with no card. Free exports are 720p and carry a "made with waveforge.net" watermark and outro. Any credit pack removes those and unlocks 1080p to 4K.
Do I need a subscription? No. Buy a credit pack when you need one. Credits never expire. Pro is optional and cancels in one click.
Will it use my real song and art? Yes. It renders your finished mix and your own cover art. No stock loops and no AI faces.
Can it make vertical videos for TikTok and Shorts? Yes. There's a vertical cut with the same render in portrait framing.
Drop the same file you sent DistroKid and get your video tonight. 2 videos free, no card. Forge a free video → waveforge.net
